I was looking for something to do with all the extra yarn I have lying around the house, so I decided to spruce up our fireplace mantle with some pom pom garland. Here's how I did it!

Get your supplies together. All you need is yarn, scissors, and a yarn needle.

1. Start by wrapping your yarn. You can make any size you like by wrapping the yarn around different sized things. For this project I wrapped around 4 of my fingers 50 times. I have made smaller pom poms by using a fork and wrapping about 15 times. Just pick whatever fits your project! They whip up really fast, so you can try a bunch of different sizes out.

2. Pull the yarn off your fingers, cut the yarn loose from the skein (leaving a tail), and sinch it in the middle with the tail of the yarn. Tie it up tight so that it looks like a bow.

3. Cut the loops and fluff the strands up to create a sphere shape!

Once you have all your pom poms made, use a yarn needle and string them all together. I used the white yarn to string mine, but I think it would look great with twine as well.

Find somewhere pretty to hang it, and you're finished! The whole thing only took me about 30 minutes, so it's easy to whip up in an evening. Enjoy!
