One of the things on my 25 before 25 list was to make homemade dog treats for Hans. I bought some bone shaped cookie cutters on clearance at Petsmart about a year ago, and I hadn't made the time to use them until today. I think I will have to make a habit of it, though, because this recipe made SO MANY treats, cost me almost nothing, and Hans is nuts about them.
We kind of decided to make today all about Hans, which is probably weird, but he deserved it. Poor guy didn't get much attention or exercise this week because we both were so busy with work, so we figured he deserved a day of fun. We started by taking him to one of our favorite spots in Austin, Shoal Creek. We hiked for a while and let him swim in the creek, which he loves. He chased squirrels, and Kerstan and I got to enjoy the gorgeous weather and scenery. I also took some pictures with a new app I downloaded (PicFrame).
When we got home I decided to whip him up something special while Kerstan worked on our new entertainment center in the garage. I use to bake all the time but have recently gone completely gluten free (more on that one later....), so I figured it was a good time to try my hand at K-9 cuisine. I did a couple google searches and ended up picking the first recipe for which I had all the ingredients already. This recipe from King Arthur's Flour was so simple. I didn't have any dry milk, and I didn't feel like buying any, so I just put a splash of almond milk in and hoped for the best. It worked like a charm!
Hans was absolutely crazy about these things. They are parsley & peanut butter flavored. Who knew that would be so tasty!
Here he is, begging for some more. This guy is going to sleep well tonight!

These look great!! I'm going to have to try these.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I'm 24 and I'm going to have to 'steel' your 25 before 25 idea. Such a great way to make peace with the big 2-5. I will quote you, I promise :)
